Ocean City, New Jersey is my second home. For my entire life, and my mom’s whole life, our family has been going down to our beach house for 2 weeks during the summer with my whole extended family. On top of my family’s beach house, we would also usually rent two other places for aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. This vacation is always a blast, getting the chance to just be with all my cousins for two weeks straight and I look forward to going there every summer. As all the excitement starts to settle in, it slowly goes away once I remember I need to help set up on the beach every morning. During the summer, thousands of people flock down to the Jersey Shore and in all honestly it becomes pretty chaotic. Every single day tons of people go down to the beach early in the morning, and by noon you the sand is covered. As far as you can see it’s umbrellas, tents, and chairs. If this is the time you decide to head down, well, then it’s unlucky for you because you’ll be nowhere near the water if you can even find somewhere to set up.
As one of the cousins and being one of the kids, setting up every morning was always my job. After being up late having fun with my cousins I am woken up every morning by my parents and sent down to the beach carrying tons of chairs and towels. As early as 6 am every morning we are out putting our families’ things on the beach and securing a spot. As a kid, I always dreaded this and felt there was no reason. Being the kid I was I complained every morning but would still always do it. One day while talking with my mom about it we came up with an idea.
“What if you created a service where you would set up for other people?” she said. This sparked an idea in me and got me thinking. The idea was great, however, as someone who didn’t even want to set up my things, I surely wasn’t going to help other people with theirs. I started thinking about a service I could create in which I could hire teams to help others set up. After years of “suffering” through taking multiple trips lugging beach equipment back and forth, I have finally decided to work more with this idea that my mom and I had come up with. This is how OCNJ Beach Set-Up came to life. A service where all you need to do is call or text a number, and your very own crew will come to your house. They will pick up your stuff and set it up on the beach for you. You will get a location of where your spot is from the set-up crew, so just walk down to the beach and have fun.
